Experience a one of a kind interactive journey through space

in Colorado’s First ever Certified Dark Skies Community!

The Westcliffe & Silver Cliff Planet Walk is a 4 billion to 1 true to scale interpretive walk through our Solar System. Your odyssey begins at the Welcome Station at the west end of Main Street in Westcliffe, CO, directly in front of Cliff Lanes and takes you far past Neptune to visit various wonders of our Solar System, extending beyond the town of Silver Cliff.

The actual distance from our Sun to the outer reaches of our Solar System is well over 4.5 trillion miles with the distance to Neptune just a short hop of 4.5 billion miles. However, at our scale your journey to Neptune is just a 15 minute stroll at a normal pace.

While traversing the solar system at warp speed and learning about our planets, you will have plenty of time on your space odyssey to enjoy our beautiful sights, shop, and eat along the way. Join us and walk the planets here in Colorado’s first and one of Earth’s highest altitude International Dark Sky Community!

Planet Walk uses interpretive signs to enable you as the interplanetary explorer to experience just how small the planets are compared to the vast empty space between the planets.

When you arrive at the Welcome Station you will be greeted with information on how to download and utilize the interactive audio guided app from X-Trails.

This app will help direct you thru your self guided journey through our solar system while providing fun and valuable information about each planet at their respective stations as you travel east down Main St.

Planet Walk is a joint collaboration between Dark Skies of the Wet Mountain Valley and Rotary Club of the Wet Mountain Valley.

We are thankful to them and Courtney Miller, a renowned multi-award winning local author, who has provided the leadership and effort to make this project a reality!

Further recognition and thanks to the The Planet Walk Development Committee for their hard work and dedicated vision to the Planet Walk!
